Who are we?

Celebrating its twenty first anniversary in 2012 the Furness Waste Consortium (FWC) was set up in 1991, by environmental representatives of a wide range of organisations within North West England..

The Furness area, as an isolated peninsula location, had an over-reliance on a virtually full traditional landfill disposal with no future provision.

Coupled to a relatively poor range of local waste management facilities, the FWC formed in response to the environmental pressures upon Furness and the impacts of industry, with as view to encouraging new solutions and sharing best practice
